About Brent
Brent is one of the four Founders of Find Neuro Help. Having witnessed the effects of neurological diseases on many of his close family members, he is very passionate about the Find Neuro Help mission.
The importance and value of providing service to his fellowman is something that Brent learned as a teenager. Picking peaches and cleaning out pig stalls on church farms as well as sorting clothes at thrift stores to help provide food and clothing for needy families, are just some of the projects he volunteered to perform. He also served for 18 months as a missionary in the San Francisco Bay area of California, bringing hope and peace to many people, including some who have become lifelong friends.
One of Brent’s favorite examples of providing service is the parable of the Good Samaritan. It teaches us that everyone should be considered our neighbor and we need to serve and show mercy to them. It was told by Jesus, in response to a question by a lawyer, like Brent, who asked what he could “do to inherit eternal life”. Jesus responded by asking another question, similar to what many great lawyers do, “What is written in the law?” After the lawyer answered his own question with “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself”, Jesus then ended the parable by telling the lawyer to “Go, and do thou likewise.” Luke 10:25-37.
Brent earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Accounting with an emphasis on Tax at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. He then went on to receive a law degree from Brigham Young University. Since graduating from law school, Brent has used his legal skills to serve others with business, family, collection, probate, real estate, tax, and other legal issues. He has been involved in serving his community by volunteering with Big Brothers and Big Sisters and he served on the Alumni Board for Weber State University and was a treasurer for a county political party. He has also volunteered to serve in various positions in his church. He has been a counselor to two pastors, has assisted in the leadership of various young men’s organizations, has been a counselor and leader of multiple men’s groups serving in ecclesiastical leadership roles, and he has been a finance clerk for multiple congregations. Brent is committed to the concept that we serve God by serving our fellowmen.
Currently, Brent is employed as an Estate Tax Attorney for the IRS.
Personally, Brent has been married to his wife, Peggy, for over 25 years. They have three living daughters, one twin daughter who passed away due to SIDS, and a son. When he isn’t involved with helping others with their legal and financial issues, Brent enjoys spending time with his family, reading a good book, and the occasional camping trip. He now dedicates a lot of his “spare time” to help move forward the cause of Find Neuro Help.
Why Find Neuro Help? Brent’s back-story
Family, a lifetime of experience, and the opportunity to serve others with neurological diseases are the main reasons that Brent was motivated to help in the founding of Find Neuro Help.
“I have had many close family members who have struggled with Major Depression Disorder, making it difficult at times for them to function and keep going. In addition, my grandmother, father, and father-in-law all passed away due to complications related to Alzheimer’s. I didn’t realize it at the time, in the 1980s, that my grandmother putting ice cream in the oven, and my father shoplifting were early indications that they were suffering from Alzheimer’s. I witnessed as they and my father-in-law gradually disappeared mentally with an inability to recognize or effectively associate with loved ones. I realized something had to be done to not only help those directly affected by these neurological diseases but also to bring hope to their loved ones.”
Brent has also been involved in assisting families whose children have autism with their legal, financial, and estate planning needs. In doing so, he helps them find ways to not only more effectively provide an enjoyable life for themselves and their children but to also create a financial and legal structure that will carry on their legacy into the future for all of their children. He looks forward to continuing to work with Find Neuro Help to help individuals, families, nonprofit organizations, and businesses in crafting solutions that will provide them with peace of mind and bring hope into their lives as they deal with the challenges of neurological disease diagnosis.
